Industrial Emissions Directive

What is this about?

The IED came into force on 6th January 2011 and has to be transposed into UK law by 6th January 2013. It incorporates a number of existing Directives, such as the Large Combustion Plant, IPPC, Waste Incineration and Solvent Emissions Directives. This has been done in order to streamline the regulatory system within the EU.

This has to be implemented by 6th January 2013 for new installations, 6th January 2014 for installations in existence prior to 6th January 2013 and by 6th July 2015 for industrial activities not subject to the current IPPC Directive.

How it affects you

The Directive may require changes to your permits. This will depend on the nature of the processes used throughout your business. We will be advising you in due course of any action required that relates to equipment or services.

Every business should also be aware of the laws regarding Health and Safety, especially the Health and Safety at Work Act, and COSSH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
